Today, I've got a quick practical update to share. Something that's made our kitchen feel even cozier and more peaceful, especially during these cold gray Michigan winters.

I recently installed some rechargeable motion sensor lights under the kitchen cabinets and honestly, it's one of those small changes that brings a lot of joy to me. Nothing fancy, just a gentle way to light our space without overwhelming the quiet. This isn't a sponsorship.

I found the lights on Amazon and bought them for myself because they checked all the boxes for me. Easy, affordable, and low maintenance. A two-pack, it was only $9.49 for an 8-inch, so I grabbed three packs to cover everything we needed.

They're completely wireless and rechargeable. Just pop them off to charge via your cell phone charger and the best part, they last almost a month before needing recharge. In our house with everyday comings and goings, it's probably going to be close to the three to four weeks time frame before we have to recharge them again.

What I love most about these lights is walking into the dark kitchen at night, maybe to get a drink of water or a little snackaroo and having the lights come on as I move around. I didn't have to fumble for switches. I didn't have to turn on those bright overhead lights and wake everybody up.

It's that little touch of convenience that makes slow evenings feel even better. Installation was so simple. It's perfect for anyone who isn't super handy or doesn't want to commit to permanent changes.

No drilling, no tools. They come with a magnetic iron plate. You stick the plate under the cabinet with the adhesive backing, then the light just snaps on magnetically.

If you need to charge or clean it, just pull that puppy right off and pop it right back when you're done. So that means it's renter friendly and perfect for both of our homes. You can even adjust the warmth and brightness from a soft glow to brighter task lighting, whatever fits the moment.

I'm already planning to pick up more for the kitchen up north. That cabin could use the same cozy hands-free upgrade and my son would like me to buy some for our hallway here at our home, which I think would be cool. If he has to get up and go to the restroom in the evening, the lights come on, he can see where he's going.

If you'd like to see the full install and how they look in action, I'll have a video on our YouTube channel, Homestead in the Mitten, this Friday (January 9, 2026) at 8 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. It's a quick five and a half minute watch with the step-by-step and the final reveal. The link to our YouTube channel can also be found in the sidebar of this blog. Well, that's all for this little homestead hack today.

Small changes like this remind me how much joy comes from making our spaces work better for the life we want. Slow, simple, and surrounded by Michigan beauty. If you've done something similar in your home, I'd love to hear about it.
